When netbooks first arrived on the scene, the question we heard more than any other was, “Why would anyone want one of those?” That is, until they started selling….and selling. One million Asus Eee PCs later, the industry sat up and took notice: Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and countless others introduced what we now call netbooks. They were also called “mini-notebooks” for a while, but Intel coined the term “netbook,” and that’s the one that stuck. Today, 1 in 10 online consumers has purchased a netbook (source: PriceGrabber.com, 2009), and the tiny systems are on track to sell 35 million in 2009, increasing to 139 million per year in 2013 (source: ABI Research, 2009).
